I’m Amber Smith – a dedicated relief teacher at Yea Kindergartens, Project Officer of the Our Children, Our Community Project at Yea & District Memorial Hospital, and only weeks away from beginning my Master of Speech Pathology.

As a proud mum at Yea Primary School and a passionate advocate for literacy intervention, I know firsthand how challenging the journey can be when a child struggles to read.

Being the parent of a child with dyslexia has been both difficult and eye-opening, but it has also motivated me to better understand how I can support him – and to extend that support to other families in our community.

Alongside my teaching and project work, I bring experience in MSL (Multisensory Structured Language) education techniques, a highly effective, evidence-based approach for children with dyslexia and literacy difficulties. This background allows me to combine professional tools with lived experience to help children progress in their reading and writing.

I created this page as a first step in building a network of parents and carers across Murrindindi Shire who are walking a similar path. Together, we can share resources, celebrate progress, and support one another as our children grow in confidence and ability.
